• Crowns are a full coverage artistic structure that provides strength to a weakened tooth.  The natural tooth including filling material in the tooth is reduced in height and circumference.  Its size is reduced to make room for porcelain and/or metal that will cover the tooth and be near the same size and shape as the tooth was originally formed prior to destruction from decay, breakage or wear.  Dr. Clear evaluates your teeth for the size of its fillings, breakage, and decay.  The more destruction a tooth receives in its lifetime, leaves less natural tooth structure remaining.  A tooth's strength comes from its natural, unbroken, non-decayed dentin and enamel.  Therefore the larger the filling or size of a break  in a tooth, the less natural tooth structure remains, making it weak and prone to further breakage.  A crown restores a tooth's strength and esthetics.
